Educational E-books by VOLANDIA’S FLIGHT MUSEUM
Air, water, earth, and heroes
The e-books serve as a valuable aid to ensure a successful visit to the Volandia Museum for school-age children and teenagers, particularly those in primary and lower secondary school. To achieve this, a simple and accessible language was chosen, and numerous games accompanying the narrative (memory, mazes, coloring pages, origami, etc.) were designed to be suitable for users of different age groups.
Four digital e-books in PDF format have been created, each focusing on a specific theme:
– Air – Dedicated to the history of flight, the major industries in the region that earned Varese the title of “The Province with Wings,” and the exploration of the Universe through space missions.
– Earth – Focused on the pavilions housing the Bertone car collections, Flaminio Bertoni (one of the most renowned automobile designers of the 20th century), and the Ogliari transport collection.
– Water – Exploring the water cycle, its role in human history, and significant canal works in the Volandia area, such as the Villoresi Canal.
– Heroes – A tribute to the great and small figures (entrepreneurs, scientists, engineers, artisans, and workers) who contributed to the prominence of the Varese province in aviation and transportation. This e-book delves deeper into the stories of the key characters introduced in the previous three e-books.
The e-books are available for online download to encourage museum visits, allowing visitors, especially younger ones, to gain a general understanding of what they will explore. For schools and teachers, the e-books can also be provided in advance to facilitate classroom preparation prior to the visit.
The e-books include detailed fact sheets on a selection of the most significant exhibits (aircraft, helicopters, cars, etc.), creating a concise yet comprehensive guide to highlight aspects of greatest interest to visitors. Additionally, the digital format enables new content to be added over time, making it possible for users to choose which topics to explore further, crafting their own personalized guide to the exhibition.
The use of educational games makes the tool even more engaging, as it allows for storytelling and initiates a learning process based on direct experience and playful involvement. The text structure also aligns with storytelling principles, featuring a specially created guide character tailored to each e-book’s theme. This character also appears in the Volapp game app, creating continuity between educational tools aimed at fostering loyalty among the target audience.
The guide character introduces each topic by telling a story that continues with fascinating facts, engaging events, historical figures, and everyday people, ensuring an enjoyable and enriching educational experience.
